Perhaps the true test of a fighter’s will and desire doesn’t come in the ring, but when the Thanksgiving dinner bell rings and he or she has to turn away, knowing that weigh-in day is 24 hours away.

That’s the situation junior welterweight prospect Daniel Gonzalez was in this week as he awaits Saturday’s bout with Danny O’Connor at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, but he wasn’t bothered at all.

“I’m not much of an eater at Thanksgiving,” he laughed. “I try to stay healthy all year round, so I try to stay away from things like that. I might have splurged a little bit, but it’s not that big of a deal. Thanksgiving will be after the fight.”

His opponent, Danny O’Connor weighed in below the 140lb limit as well at 139 LBS before a crowd of fans from both camps at The Mohegan Sun. Tonight will be a night full of action as El Gallo takes his 14-0 record in to the squared circle, looking to put the green belt around his waist and finally get ranked among the world’s greatest in his weight class.

Daniel Gonzalez has much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday week as he prepares to face Danny O’Connor tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

For Gonzalez (14-0-1, 5 knockouts), who is a fitness buff, boxing is not only a gateway to a future world title opportunity but also a lifestyle choice that has already paid large dividends to both himself and his brother. Gonzalez, through his love for boxing and competing in the sport, has shed nearly 100 pounds and then helped his brother lose an astounding 170 pounds.
