Mike “El Cangri” Ruiz Gearing Up For Showdown With Boyd Melson

The last time Mike “El Cangri” Ruiz (17-8 9KO’s) was in the ring was in November of 2013 when he faced off against contender Charlie Ota in front of a packed house in Brooklyn, NY; he came up short in a fight in which he entered with various injuries that were further aggravated during the bout. Time heals everything and it looks like a motivated and healthy Ruiz is looking to score an upset when he faces Boyd Melson (14-1-1 4KO’s) in the main event as part of Lou DiBella’s show May 8th at the Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook, NY. Facing a tough southpaw with decent all around qualities, it’s detrimental to get the right sparring to generate a gameplan that will later be executed, this is when various sparring partners like Renan Ruiz (4-1-1 3KO’s) a southpaw from Brooklyn, NY by way of Puerto Rico; come in to play delivering quality work while also preparing for his upcoming bout April 18th in Rochester, NY. The sparring match was another UBG give and take battle with alot of action worth paying to watch under the blazing heat and cameramen who were shooting a short movie for the build-up to Ruiz’s fight. We appreciate all support and info on tickets will be available soon, for now enjoy the photo! UBG STAND UP!

The Fire Continues To Burn For Saleh Almulaki!!!

It would be understandable to be bitter, to spew hate, and to be angry. Last night infront of a large crowd of supporters, our 123lb Novice fighter Saleh Almulaki gave his all and left nothing in the ring against his very tough opponent in the finals of the Daily News Golden Gloves. We didn’t get the win unfortunately, it’s a disappointing loss considering all of the work put in for preparations and the amazing journey our young fighter traveled to get to where he is today; despite doing everything possible to win we came up short in the judges eyes. While we can feel disappointed as a team, we will not be sore about it, we will use it as fuel to strive for more success and to be better, UBG is more than a gym or a team, it’s a family. We are brothers in arms and we are nothing but grateful to God and all the supporters who came out to cheer on our brave brawler. Stay tuned because it doesn’t end here! ‪#‎ubgstandup‬

Saleh Almulaki Goes For Gold This Thursday Night!

Dreams may come true for 123lb Novice division boxer Saleh Almulaki. Training for the past couple of years, Almulaki has risen to be one of the hardest working young men we have here at UBG and also the underdog that kept under the radar but landed on top with 3 exciting but dominant victories in the Daily News Golden Gloves. The 19 year old Yemen fighter bring a fast paced, non-stop punching style with awkward angles and plenty of pop in every punch, he has been a crowd favorite in every bout and this Thursday April 2nd at the Barclays Center will be no different as he aims to capture gold in his weight class opposite  19 year old Christopher Fernandez of World Wide Boxing Gym. We appreciate all the support in this competition and would love to see you there cheering our boy on, we are taking no prisoners, see you all Thursday night! UBG STAND UP!

Saleh Alreyashi on his way to the Barclays!!!

Deion Sparks (Judah Bros BC) appeared to be the heavy favorite in the 123-pound class, but Saleh Almulaki (Universal BC) had other ideas. Almulaki, the P.C. Richard and Son Boxer of the Night, was ferocious for all six minutes of their novice bout and simply wore his opponent down.

“In the beginning I was a little nervous, but when the fight starts I forget who you are, where you came from,” Almulaki said. “The first round he was tough, but after that I destroyed him.”

Almulaki will meet the equally impressive Christopher Fernandez (Worldwide BC) in the 123-pound final after Fernandez defeated Yosuke Suzuki (Unattached) in the Applebee’s Bout of the Night.
